Future Farmer Competition

One entry, five ways to earn points across the whole fair

The Future Farmer Competition is for young people who want to do it all. Show an animal, grow a Christmas tree, put a Life Skills project in the hall, sit in on the speaker session and take the quiz. Points from each part are tallied up, and the top three take home cash prizes courtesy of Farm Credit Canada.

Ages 7–21

Open to youth who were 7 to 21 years old as of January 1, 2026.

Future Farmer Entry Fee

$5

Paid when your entry form is submitted to the exhibition. No form or no fee means you're not in the running.

Class Entry Fees

Paid separately

The fee for each class you enter is payable to the committee running that division, on top of the $5 Future Farmer fee.

All points are tallied and prizes are handed out on the last day of the fair.

Where

Exhibition Grounds

Oxford, NS — Aug 31 to Sept 6, 2026. Each part of the competition runs at its own venue and time.

What You Have To Enter

To be eligible for the Future Farmer Competition, you must enter all four of the following:

  • At least one livestock, light horse or beef entry Pick whichever suits you. See the Open Beef Show, the Junior Beef Show or the Light Horse Show for classes and entry forms.
  • The Christmas Tree Competition Held in memory of Keith Moore. It's $5 per tree with no registration deadline — enter here.
  • At least one Life Skills project, any category Vegetables, flowers, baking and pickling, arts and crafts, or the children's competition. Booklets and the entry form are on the Forms & Documents page.
  • A speaker session, plus the quiz Attend the session and complete the quiz that follows it.

Still to be announced: the speaker's name, and the time and location of the speaker session. We'll post it here and on the 2026 schedule as soon as it's set, and everyone who has entered will be told directly.

How Points Are Earned

Each part of the competition scores differently. At the end of the fair every competitor's points are added together.

Light Horse Your top three placings count.
Beef Your showmanship placing counts.
Christmas Tree 1 point automatically for entering, plus placing points below.
Life Skills 1 point automatically for entering, plus placing points below.

How It Works

Step 1

Enter the Competition

Fill out the Future Farmer entry form above and pay the $5 entry fee when you submit it. Without both, you won't be considered for the competition.

Step 2

Enter Your Classes

Sign up separately for your livestock, light horse or beef class, the Christmas Tree Competition, and at least one Life Skills project. Each class fee goes to the committee running that division.

Step 3

Come Show & Take the Quiz

Show your animal, drop off your tree and your Life Skills project, then attend the speaker session and complete the quiz. Details on the session are still to be announced.

Step 4

Awards

Points are tallied across every division and the Champion, Reserve Champion and Honourable Mention are announced Sunday, September 6.
